I am very excited to serve as the 61th president of the Queens Pediatric Society (QPS).  I thank Dr. Burris-Warmouth for her successful two years as President and many years of service to the society.  I am thrilled to be working with our new executive officers, Vice President Dr. Baik-Han, Treasurer Dr. Fazlul Yusuf and Secretary Dr. Laura Garabedian. We hope to bring some new and wonderful experiences for our Pediatricians in Queens.

Our mission as a society is to promote education, and awareness of the advances in children’s health care, and to promote camaraderie among the general pediatricians in our area.  The society is also the first level of connection to the American Academy of Pediatrics as members of our local Chapter 2 of the New York District 2.  As such, our officers and Executive Committee members are the direct representatives of pediatricians in Queens.

The QPS meets quarterly on the Second Tuesday of the month in September, December, February and April. These are educational dinner meetings. Topics to be covered this year are in the area of gastroenterology and neurology. Most recently we covered allergy acne and anaphylaxis. These meetings can be cosponsored by pharmaceutical companies.

The April meeting is “Residents Night” where residents from the Pediatric training programs in Queens have the opportunity to discuss their research and meet the practicing pediatricians in Queens. The QPS funds a scholarship for the participants. This is a wonderful evening for all involved.

Our meetings are educational and social as well. This is an opportunity to become involved, meet other physicians in your area, and voice your concerns. We are always welcoming new members and ideas. Our membership fee is a nominal $150.00 per year.  The membership fee covers the cost of the conferences and annual gala. Membership application is available on this website.

This year we are sponsoring a new essay contest entitled, “Why I Would Like To Be a Pediatrician” for our patients in Queens. There will be prizes awarded. This event is being cosponsored by The Heath Nuts in Bayside.

Every Second Tuesday in June we have an annual gala to celebrate our colleagues. It is a night of food, fun and festivities. This year we are inviting the winners and their families of our essay contest, “Why I Would Like To Be a Pediatrician” to join us to receive their prizes and honor their pediatricians.

In the words of my esteemed predecessor:

We welcome you in the spirit of collegiality, professionalism, and friendship.
